Dear student,

Soon you will be selecting the subjects you plan to study in years 11 and 12. A good place to start is to think about what subjects you’re interested in and good at – and if you intend to go on to further study after Year 12, you also need to know that some courses have prerequisites.

Prerequisites are subjects that you must complete in years 11 and 12 to be considered for entry to a particular course. Many higher education courses have prerequisites and some vocational education and training (VET) courses do too – so do your research!

You may also be considering completing an apprenticeship. You can learn more about apprenticeships on myfuture and use our resources to help you research apprenticeship and traineeship career pathways.

Open days

Many open days are held in term three. Visit a university, TAFE or college that interests you to find out about its courses, speak with current students about their experiences and check out the facilities. This is your chance to go on campus to get a feel for what it would be like to study there.
