Queensland ATAR

From 2020, the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) will replace the Overall Position (OP) as the standard admission pathway to tertiary study for Year 12 school leavers in Queensland. The ATAR is used nationally and indicates a student's achievement relative to other students.

Queensland students who will complete Year 12 at the end of 2020 and seek entry to tertiary courses from 2021 will be the first in their state to receive an ATAR.

Helping students with post-school study options

Students may wish to explore Australian Apprenticeships, which offer entry pathways to more than 500 occupations across Australia.

Students who are interested in university, but may not qualify for direct entry, can consider a range of other pathways to university study, such as vocational education and training (VET) and TAFE courses.

Students who are eligible for, and interested in, direct university entry still need to choose an institution and decide whether to accept an offer or defer and take a gap year.
