The National Career Information Service

Many work experience programs are being cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19. Consider other ways to explore the world of work by using myfuture to research further options, and check with your teachers about any alternative programs your school might be offering.

Explore occupations

Discover occupations you may be suited to by completing the short online activities in My career profile – identify your interests and skills to receive a list of suggested occupations, including links to related courses and job prospects. You can also browse over 350 occupation profiles or learn more about industries.

Discover vocational education and training (VET)

Most VET courses include industry experience, where you can practise your work skills and observe aspects of a particular occupation or industry. Some courses allow you to 'earn while you learn'. Apprenticeships, for example, offer paid entry pathways to over 500 occupations in Australia, and at some schools you can combine one of these nationally recognised qualifications with senior secondary study.

Consider part-time work and volunteering

You can also build valuable skills, contacts and workplace experience by getting a part-time job, or volunteering in the community. COVID-19 restrictions may prevent you from doing this right now, but you can still get prepared by writing your application documents and looking out for opportunities.
