The National Career Information Service

Are you considering which subjects to select for years 11 and 12 but not sure where to start? Remember to think about subjects you like and are good at, and activities you enjoy outside school. Extending your learning in your key interest areas could lead to a rewarding career.

If you intend to study beyond Year 12, it's also important to know that many higher education courses, and some vocational education and training (VET) courses, have prerequisites - subjects you must complete in years 11 and 12 to be eligible to apply. Research courses now to find out their requirements and get more tips below on selecting senior school subjects.

If you're thinking about an apprenticeship, there are many options and pathways to choose from, some of which can be combined with senior secondary study. Explore our resources to learn more.

Open days

Many universities, TAFEs and colleges hold open days this term. These events can help you make decisions about your future study options, allowing you to find out about courses and programs and ask any questions that you might have. This year, due to COVID-19, most institutions will hold virtual open days online. Remember to research and prepare so you can get the most out of any event. View these resources to get started:
