myfuture Newsletter - April 2018

Term two is already upon us and myfuture is keen to remind you about the tools available to help your students explore their career options as they consider what to do at the end of secondary school.

Exploring career options

To develop self awareness for career decision-making, students can log in to My career profile and use the career exploration tool. They will complete short online activities to help identify their interests, skills, values and more. Students will then be provided with a results summary and suggested occupations along with links to courses related to the occupation.

Upcoming events

Many TAFEs, universities and training organisations exhibit at Career Expos. It’s a chance for your students to explore and help identify their interest areas. They can also find out about courses offered and determine if prerequisite subjects are required, which can help students when choosing subjects.

Dates for the diary

  • VCE and Careers Expo 2018
    Thursday 3 – Sunday 6 May
    Caulfield Racecourse (admission fee applies).

Work experience

Many students may already be thinking about a particular career or keen to explore what it would be like working in a particular industry. Work experience provides students the chance to build on their skills and see first-hand the broad range of roles available in that industry.

Remind your year 9 and 10 students to research their options and make contact with their preferred employer sooner rather than later. The health sector is known for opening work experience placement opportunities the year before the work experience takes place. So remind your students to prepare in advance.

Work experience and why it matters.
